The Complete Guide

How It Works

Everything about the Team Event, start to finish — how you get in, how the draft works, how points are won, and how a nation lifts the Rings.

The Basics

9

Nations compete, each representing a country.

5

Players per nation, ranked Tier 1 to Tier 5.

You

When your country plays, you play. No bench.

The Road to the Rings

  1. 1

    Register your interest

Put your name forward when registration opens. This runs over roughly two weeks and every matchday your country plays, you play — so only sign up if you can commit for the whole thing.

  2. 2

    Selection & Qualifying School

Some players are locked in automatically — the defending champions keep their squad, and the captains are set. Everyone else fights for the remaining spots in the Qualifying School: two rounds of golf, and your best combined score against the others in your tier earns your place. You must post both rounds to qualify.

  3. 3

    The Draft

Captains build their squads. For each tier, a captain ranks the available players in order of who they want most. A random draw sets the pick order, then the system works down everyone’s list and gives each captain the best player still available. Defending champions keep their exact squad and sit the draft out.

  4. 4

    Group Stage

Every nation plays every other in a full round-robin. On each matchday your five players face the opponent’s five, tier against tier. Win your head-to-head and you earn points for your country. Win the fixture = 3 pts, draw = 2, loss = 0. The best nations advance.

  5. 5

    Knockout

The top nations go head-to-head in the knockout stage, played Ryder Cup style — Foursomes and Fourballs, then Singles. Each tie is worth 13 points; the first nation to 7 goes through.

  6. 6

    Champions

The last nation standing lifts the Team Event Rings — every player on the winning squad earns one, the Tour’s most coveted team honour.

Understanding Tiers

Every squad has five players, ranked Tier 1 to Tier 5. Tier 1 is the captain. On a matchday, players only face the same tier from the other nation — your Tier 3 plays their Tier 3, and so on. It keeps every matchup fair and gives every player, top to bottom, a head-to-head that matters.

How Points Are Won

Group Stage

Each tier matchup is decided by the players’ matchday scores — the lower score (better round) wins the head-to-head. Win more of the five matchups than the opponent and you win the fixture.

Win = 3Draw = 2Loss = 0

Knockout (Ryder Cup format)

Ties are played over Foursomes, Fourballs and Singles. Every match won is a point toward the tie — 13 points are available and the first nation to 7 wins and advances.

The Silverware

Team Event Rings

The team prize. Awarded to the winning nation — every player on the champion squad earns a ring.

The Silver Iron

A personal accolade run alongside. It goes to the player with the best individual win percentage across all their matchups — the most consistent performer, whatever nation they play for.

One rule above all: availability. The competition runs for roughly two weeks straight, and every matchday your nation plays, you play — there’s no bench. Only put your name in if you can commit for the duration.
